1996. Banknote of 1.000 Escudos. Front side: Pedro Alvares Cabral. He was a Portuguese nobleman, military, commander, navigator and explorer, discoverer of Brazil.. In the back side, a sailing ship depicting the ship of Pedro Alvares Cabral.
1995. Banknote of 2.000 Escudos. Front side: Bartolomeu Dias (1450-1500), nobleman of the Portuguese royal household, was a Portuguese explorer. He sailed around the southernmost tip of Africa in 1488, the first European known to have done so. Reverse side: Ship in a storm.
1995. Banknote of 5.000 Escudos. Front side: Vasco da Gama, (c. 1469-1524). Reverse side: Ships of the Portuguese fleet. He was a Portuguese explorer, one of the most successful in the Age of Discovery and the commander of the first ships to sail directly from Europe to India. He is one of the most famous and celebrated explorers from the Discovery Ages, being the first European to reach India by sea. This discovery was very significant and paved the way for the Portuguese to establish a long-lasting colonial empire in Asia.

Front side: Infante Dom Henrique (1394-1460), better known as Henrique the Navigator (Henrique el navegante), was an important figure in the early days of the Portuguese Empire and the Age of Discoveries in total. He was responsible for the early development of European exploration and maritime trade with other continents. Reverse side: Portuguese Nao (a type of ship).
